Schedule a Consultation

The consultation is an opportunity to discuss the capacity building needs of your organization and get a better idea of how VISTA could be integrated into your programs. Schedule VISTA Consultation

Review Short VISTA Presentation

Before the consultation, perspective sites will need to review the 30-min, Capacity Building for Nonprofits webinar recording. The webinar provides program overview and information on ways that organizations can advance their work through a partnership with AmeriCorps VISTA. It also covers eligibility requirements, the VISTA process and expectations of your organization and The Collaborative. Webinar Recording

The Process to Host a VISTA

Committing to Host a VISTA

Once your organization decides to host a VISTA, the entity will sign a MOU with The Collaborative outlining the details and specifics of the partnership.

Recruiting Your VISTA

Your organization will select your VISTA. The Collaborative supports participating organization through online free and paid recruitment platforms. Potential candidates are matched with sites based off of location and skills after undergoing The Collaborative’s interview and vetting process. Your organization has to option of interviewing and selecting candidates from this pool or conduct your own internal recruitment. All candidates selected to serve as a VISTA will have a criminal background check.

Getting Started with Your VISTA

Selected VISTAs are assigned a start date based off when they are selected for the program. Start dates are assigned at the national level. Please check with The Collaborative with specific start dates for your candidate.

Before beginning service at your site, your VISTA will participate in a Virtual Member Orientation. The final portion of this training is their first day of service during a virtual national swearing in ceremony.

Engaging Your VISTA

Host organizations will need to onboard all VISTAs as they would a new employee of their organization via new-hire and/or training. VISTAs should be introduced to all staff and recognized as a VISTA – not an intern, assistant, receptionist, etc. VISTA service is a great sacrifice and can add great value to your organization. We encourage you to provide additional support to VISTAs as allowed by the AmeriCorps program. It is important to note that VISTA pay can NOT be supplemented. Any additional VISTA support will not be paid directly to a VISTA. Please check with The Collaborative about specific ways to support your VISTA.

Sites must provide a work space, laptop, and office supplies for the VISTA.
